“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.” – Proverbs 16:3 (NIV)
Devotional Reflection
We often find ourselves striving—planning, organizing, and working tirelessly to bring our dreams to fruition. Yet, Proverbs 16:3 invites us to approach our plans differently. Instead of relying on our own strength and understanding, we’re called to commit everything to the Lord. This is not merely a one-time gesture but an ongoing act of surrender, trusting Him to guide our paths and shape our desires according to His will.
When we entrust our plans to God, it is an act of faith that acknowledges His sovereignty. It means releasing control and believing that He will bring clarity and order, even when we face uncertainty. God’s establishment of our plans does not always look like immediate success or ease; sometimes, it means waiting, refining, or redirection. But in every step, He is faithful to work all things for His glory and our ultimate good.
Surrender is not a sign of weakness but of strength rooted in trust. Today, release the weight of self-reliance and rest in the assurance that God’s hands are shaping the path before you.
Inhale Truth, Exhale Trust
Breath Prayer:
(Inhale) “I commit my plans to You, Lord…”
(Exhale) “…and trust You to establish them.”
How to Practice a Breath Prayer:
Find a quiet space where you can sit comfortably and take a few deep breaths to settle your mind. As you inhale, silently pray the first part of the phrase (e.g., “I commit my plans to You, Lord…”), and as you exhale, pray the second part (e.g., “…and trust You to establish them.”). Repeat the prayer slowly for 2–5 minutes, letting the rhythm of your breathing guide your focus. This simple practice helps center your heart on God’s presence and truth.
Practical Application
Take a moment today to reflect on your plans and goals for the week, month, or year.
• Identify one area where you feel the most pressure to succeed or control.
• Pray specifically over that area, asking God to take the lead and give you peace as you trust Him.
Journal Prompt
What does it look like to truly commit your plans to the Lord? Write about one specific plan or goal you’re holding tightly to and how you can surrender it to Him today.
Closing Prayer
Lord, I commit my plans, dreams, and desires into Your hands. Teach me to trust You fully, even when the path feels uncertain. Help me to release my need for control and to rest in the assurance that You are working all things for good. Establish my steps according to Your will, and give me peace as I walk in faith. Amen.
