“When Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, ‘It is finished,’ and He bowed His head and gave up His spirit.”
— John 19:30
“For by a single offering He has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.”
— Hebrews 10:14
Devotional Reflection
With His final breath on the cross, Jesus spoke three words that changed everything: “It is finished.”
Not “I am finished,” as if He had been defeated. Not “It is over,” as if all hope was lost. It is finished. The work of salvation was complete. The debt of sin was paid in full. The power of death was broken forever.
We often live as though there is still something to prove, something to earn, something unfinished in our faith. But the cross reminds us that Jesus has already done it all. The striving can cease. The weight of sin is lifted. Grace is freely given, because the work has already been completed.
When Jesus declared, “It is finished,” He meant it. The door to the Father is open. Forgiveness is secured. Redemption is complete. Nothing needs to be added—only received.
Today, rest in the finished work of Christ. You are not striving for victory—you are living from it.
Inhale Truth, Exhale Trust
Breath Prayer: (Inhale) Jesus, You have finished the work. (Exhale) I rest in Your grace.
How to Practice a Breath Prayer:
Breathe in the truth that salvation is complete. As you breathe out, release any sense of striving or trying to earn what has already been freely given.
Practical Application
Stop Striving. If you find yourself trying to “earn” God’s love, remind yourself that Jesus has already secured it.
Live in Grace. Read Hebrews 10:14 and reflect on what it means that Jesus has “perfected” you through His sacrifice.
Thank Him for the Cross. Take time today to meditate on the weight of Jesus’ words—“It is finished”—and what they mean for your life.
Journal Prompt
What does it mean for your daily life that Jesus has finished the work of salvation? How does this truth free you from striving?
Closing Prayer
Jesus, thank You for the cross. Thank You that when You said, “It is finished,” You meant it. I no longer have to strive or carry the weight of sin—You have already won the victory. Teach me to live in the freedom of Your finished work, resting in Your grace each day. Amen.
Invitation to Live with Truth, Goodness, and Beauty
You do not have to add to what Jesus has already completed. Live in the fullness of His finished work, resting in His grace today.
