"And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ." – Philippians 1:9-10
Devotional Reflection
Love is not meant to be stagnant—it is meant to grow, deepen, and overflow. Paul’s prayer in Philippians 1:9-10 reveals that true love is not just about emotion; it is rooted in wisdom and discernment. It is love shaped by truth, guided by insight, and refined through our relationship with God.
When love abounds in knowledge, it moves beyond shallow sentiment and becomes steadfast, thoughtful, and Christlike. It helps us discern what is best, enabling us to love in ways that honor God and build up those around us. An overflowing love is not reckless—it is intentional. It seeks to love rightly, wisely, and in a way that reflects the heart of Christ.
As we grow in our faith, our love should grow with it—not just in size but in depth. Ask God today to make your love abound more and more, to shape it with wisdom, and to let it overflow into the lives of others.
Inhale Truth, Exhale Trust
Breath Prayer: (Inhale) Let my love abound…(Exhale) In wisdom and truth.
How to Practice a Breath Prayer: Find a quiet space where you can sit comfortably and take a few deep breaths to settle your heart. As you inhale, silently pray the first part of the phrase (e.g., “Let my love abound…”), and as you exhale, pray the second part (e.g., “…in wisdom and truth.”). Repeat the prayer slowly for 2–5 minutes, allowing it to shape your heart and mind toward God’s love.
Practical Application
Pray for Growth in Love: Ask God to increase your love—not just in emotion, but in wisdom, discernment, and depth.
Discern How to Love Well: Think about a relationship in your life. How can you love this person in a way that reflects Christ—not just through feelings, but through wisdom and intentionality?
Let Love Overflow: Look for an opportunity today to let your love abound—whether through encouragement, generosity, or simply being present for someone in need.
