Scripture Focus
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." – Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV)
Devotional Reflection
In a world that glorifies busyness and achievement, rest can feel elusive. Many of us carry the weight of expectations, worries, and unrelenting schedules, leaving our souls tired and burdened. Yet, in Matthew 11:28-30, Jesus offers an invitation unlike any other: “Come to me.”
This is not merely an invitation to physical rest but to soul-deep renewal. Jesus promises that His yoke—His way of life—is easy and light because it is marked by grace, not striving. When we surrender our burdens to Him, we learn to live in step with His gentle and humble heart.
True rest comes when we release control, acknowledge our limitations, and trust in God’s sufficiency. It’s not about escaping responsibilities but about finding peace in the One who carries our burdens alongside us. Today, let go of the weight you’ve been trying to bear on your own and step into the rest Jesus offers.
Inhale Truth, Exhale Trust
Breath Prayer: (Inhale) “I come to You, Jesus…”(Exhale) “…and find rest for my soul.”
How to Practice a Breath Prayer:
Find a quiet space where you can sit comfortably and take a few deep breaths to settle your mind. As you inhale, silently pray the first part of the phrase (e.g., “I come to You, Jesus…”), and as you exhale, pray the second part (e.g., “…and find rest for my soul.”). Repeat the prayer slowly for 2–5 minutes, letting the rhythm of your breathing guide your focus. This simple practice helps center your heart on God’s presence and truth.
Practical Application
Identify one specific burden you are carrying right now.
Pray over this burden, asking Jesus to help you release it to Him.
Set aside intentional time today for rest—whether through prayer, journaling, or simply sitting in silence with God.
Journal Prompt
What does it mean to you to find rest in Jesus? Write about a burden you are releasing to Him and how you hope to experience His peace in that area.
Closing Prayer
Jesus, thank You for inviting me to come to You with my burdens. Teach me to trust You fully and to release the weights I was never meant to carry. Help me to find rest for my soul in Your gentle and humble heart. Guide me to live in step with You, finding peace and renewal each day. Amen.
