"Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!"— Psalm 46:10 (ESV)
Devotional Reflection
We are not always overwhelmed because we’re overcommitted—sometimes we’re just overexposed.
Our minds weren’t made to carry constant notifications, the weight of the world’s grief, or the endless parade of other people’s opinions. And yet, we rarely notice how loud it’s gotten until we try to be still—and find we can’t.
The noise we’ve learned to live with may not seem harmful at first. But over time, it dulls our discernment, clouds our peace, and numbs our desire for God. Detoxing the mind begins with the discipline of quiet—creating space where God’s voice is not one among many, but the only one that matters.
Stillness is more than silence; it is a spiritual posture of knowing. And it is in that stillness that God becomes not just known, but trusted.
Inhale Truth, Exhale Trust
Quiet your surroundings, quiet your mind, and return to the stillness where God waits.
Breath Prayer
Inhale: Be still, my soul. Exhale: Know that He Is God.
How to Practice a Breath Prayer
Step away from noise today—whether it’s digital, emotional, or environmental. Sit in stillness, even for five minutes. As you breathe, let the breath prayer become the rhythm of your awareness. Don’t strive for control over your thoughts—just let them settle as you settle into the presence of God.
Practical Application
Do a “noise audit” today. What are the main sources of input into your mind—podcasts, social media, news, group chats? Choose one to fast from for the next 24 hours. Replace that space with silence or a slow reading of Scripture (try Psalm 46 or Isaiah 30).
Journal Prompt
Where in my life have I learned to live with too much noise? What kind of inner stillness might be possible if I intentionally turned it down?
Closing Prayer
Lord, teach me to be still. Not just in my schedule, but in my soul. Let the clamor of lesser things fade into the background so Your voice can take its rightful place at the center. Help me not to fill every silence with sound, but to welcome stillness as a sacred space. Amen.
Invitation to Live with Truth, Goodness, and Beauty
Stillness invites beauty back into the soul. In the quiet, you’ll rediscover that God is not far off—He’s waiting to be known by the one who dares to slow down.
