Scripture Focus
“The women who had come with him from Galilee followed and saw the tomb and how his body was laid. Then they returned and prepared spices and ointments. On the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment.”
— Luke 23:55–56 (ESV)
Devotional Reflection
Holy Saturday is the day of stillness. The cross has already been lifted; the tomb already sealed. The women have done all they could—and now, they wait. In grief. In silence. In uncertainty.
This day isn’t often remembered with grandeur or ritual, but it holds profound meaning. It is the in-between space where faith is tested and simplicity is refined. There are no miracles on Holy Saturday. No answers. No light—only the quiet.
But even here, God is at work.
Sacred simplicity is not only found in action. It’s also found in surrender. In trusting God when nothing is happening. In believing His promises even when the silence feels final. The rest the women observed wasn’t just physical—it was obedient, honoring God even in grief.
We don’t talk about waiting as a spiritual discipline, but it is. It empties us of striving. It makes space for hope. And it teaches us that God’s greatest work often happens in the quiet soil of buried dreams—right before resurrection.
Inhale Truth, Exhale Trust
Breath Prayer:
Inhale: In the silence…
Exhale: I wait with You.
How to Practice a Breath Prayer:
Find five minutes of stillness today. No distractions.
Breathe slowly and speak today’s prayer aloud or in your heart.
Let the silence teach you that God is near—even when He seems quiet.
Practical Application
Practice “Sabbath waiting” today. Don’t rush to Easter. Stay present in the stillness. Resist the urge to fill the silence. Let the discomfort lead you into deeper trust.
Journal Prompt
What feels unfinished or unresolved in your life right now? What does it look like to wait with God instead of rushing toward answers?
Closing Prayer
God of the silent days, I choose to wait with You. I don’t understand everything, but I trust that You are working even when I can’t see it. Help me to rest in the tension between death and resurrection—knowing that Your timing is perfect. Amen.
Invitation to Live with Truth, Goodness, and Beauty
Truth still stands, even in the silence. Goodness grows in the dark. Beauty is found in faithful waiting. Today, choose sacred simplicity—not by doing, but by being still.
